![]() Littleton Youth Orchestra Parent/Student General Information 2006-2007 Season From the Director Welcome to the Littleton Youth Orchestra! It is with much pride and excitement that I am afforded the opportunity to work with some of the Littleton area's most talented musicians. This season will be filled with great music and outstanding performances. The following information is designed to provide you with the basic operations and procedures of the Littleton Youth Orchestra. I look forward to working with you and I am excited for a fantastic year! Statement of Purpose The Littleton Youth Orchestra is a program designed to provide young musicians with an opportunity to learn and perform orchestral music. The ensemble is open to middle school and high school students seeking to enhance and enrich their musical experiences. The orchestra will rehearse once a week and perform several concerts throughout the season. Membership The Littleton Youth Orchestra is open to string, brass, woodwind, and percussion players ages 12-18 that are currently enrolled in their school's orchestra or band program. A minimum of two years experience on their instument is expected. Rehearsals will be held at Ken Caryl Middle School on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm. Tuition for the 2006-2007 Littleton Youth Orchestra is $175 and limited scholarships are available. All tuition fees should be paid in full by November 20th. Attendance Students selected for the orchestra must maintain a high level of commitment and attendance at all rehearsals and performances is extremely important. In the case of an absence, an absence form should be filled out in advance (if possible), signed by a parent or guardian, and submitted to Mr. O'Neill. Habitual absence may result in loss of membership in the orchestra. Rehearsals It is the expectation that each student arrives to rehearsals with the appropriate materials and equipment to participate. Students should be warmed up and in their seats before the start of rehearsal. Each student is responsible for bringing their own music (even if you have a stand partner!), a pencil with eraser, and any equipment such as rosin, valve oil, sticks etc. When a student fails to do so, not only is the individual missing out, but also the entire ensemble is negatively impacted. Because our rehearsal time is limited, every moment that we have as an ensemble is valuable. Please be respectful to the person on the podium as well as your fellow orchestra members by keeping quite while not playing. Concerts Students will perform at least three evening concerts over the course of the school year. Specifics concerning dates and locations of performances will be provided at the first rehearsal. Concert Attire To establish a professional look, the following concert dress is required of all orchestra members: Boys: Black pants (not jeans); white, collared shirt; black socks; black shoes. Girls: Black long skirt or slacks; white blouse; dark socks or stockings; dark shoes. Contact Information Brett O'Neill brett@littletonmusic.org Voicemail: 303-355-2177 |
